END THE WAR ON IRAQ,  END IT NOW!!!

March on Washington January 27, 2007

Four of us from CHS York 1965-69.  I'm the one on the left in the image with the buttons on my hat. I have a major collection of anti-Vietnam War pins. Many of them can be worn today.

Ben Cohen (of Ben and Jerry's) True Majority were very visible as people started arriving, including a group from Colorado, and a group from Oak Park, Illinois.

A Guy from NY with a double sided homemade sign.  The other side.

The stage area about 11:30 AM, two hours before the march finally started.

Steve B. with my peace flag

Characters are everywhere.  Is Bush  The Devil ?  Nice Report Card!!!

By 12:30 or so the assembly area is filling in.

These triplets were perhaps the most poignant visual portrayal of what we, the United States of America, have let loose in Iraq: the red ribbon represents the blood of victims of 9/11, US military dead, and Iraqi dead.  Nothing more need be said.

Much more of Stay the Course and the world WILL BE IN FLAMES!!!

We decided to get in line on 3rd St near the rear of the stage around 1:00 PM.  One guess as to whose "face" is on that chicken (hint: Chicken Hawk in Chief).

There were some very creative homemade signs.   This one is greatAnother one.

It's getting crowded as we wait for the speeches to end and the march to start.

Sally with the flag.  Does this remind you of anything (Guernica, perhaps)?

We may be getting started here, seem to just shuffle ahead for the longest time, and finally make it to the corner of Constitution and 3rdturning onto Constitution.

The march headed east on Constitution, and it was a sea of people.

Wouldn't THIS be nice?

Another great puppet.  Cheney maybe?

The route went south on 1st St to Independence.  By the time we turned the corner on Independence to head back to the mall we could determine that, in terms of crowd size, we had the Capitol Building completely surrounded.

This was confirmed as we stopped for 15 minutes near the corner of Independence and 3rd, where we had started.  We had been no where near the beginning of the march, and the people kept coming, and coming.  That Devil puppet again.

See you on Sept 29.
