My collection of pinback buttons issued in opposition to the Vietnam War

New: Here is a list of Major Marches, Demonstrations, and Protests against the Vietnam War.  If anyone can provide any additional information, please do (  phil3w@comcast.net  )

At this point there are nine main cases and two auxiliary cases, arranged chronologically and a couple topically. Not every pin is positively from the year(s) of the case it is displayed in, as some generic types were obviously issued over a period of years and in some cases it is almost impossible to be that specific.  There are several secondary cases I am in the process of imaging and this cyber exhibit is still under construction.  If you see something and feel I have it in the wrong chronological order, please let me know.

Update:  July 2010 : I am updating the exhibit with new images of each case. The first image will be approximately 1600x1280 pixels and the second image will be approximately 800x650 pixels. Those updated so far are marked *****

Revised July 2010 - I have decided to use larger images. Image L is approximately 2000 x 1550, image S is approximately 1200 x 950 **<><>**

Case 1L  Case 1S  : 1963-1966 plus Student Peace Union (SPU). This case has been reorganized and several pins have been added, others moved to Case 10 (to be added).  **<><>**

image of single pin: This All Purpose Political pin is perhaps the single coolest cause pin ever made, and also the rarest, as only 250 copies were made.  Sold at the November 27, 1965 March on Washington organized by SANE. This button does not have a celluloid coating, so one could if one desired scratch off anything they didn't agree with. There are very few of these buttons around today.

image of single pin:  I get asked what is this 'PCV' pin?  It was the Port Chicago Vigil, circa 1965-66. Most of the bombs, napalm, and arms in general sent to Vietnam went on ships at Port Chicago.

Case 2L  Case 2S  :  1967 plus some miscellaneous peace pins and pins from Underground Uplift Unlimited (UUU), the famous head shop in Greenwich Village.  *****

Case 3L  Case 3S  :  1968-early 1969 plus most Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) and more misc pins **<><>**

Case 4L  Case 4S  :  1969 October - December (what may seem like an un-related pin is anything but : LXIX was my draft number in the first lottery which took place on Dec 1, 1969: June 13).

Case 5L  Case 5S  :  1970  (The only demonstration that I have never seen a pin from is the Washington DC demonstration/march on May 9, which I attended after being on strike all that week at Bucknell University).  The Strike BU pins are Boston University.  I'm wondering if the plain one is from later, perhaps 1971 or 1972 based on its construction. ****

image of single pin:  Dear Mom & Dad, another very dramatic pin, made by Larry Fox, probably late 1970 or early 1971

Case 6L  Case 6S  :  1971 (The demonstration on April 24 was the biggest one I remember. 1234WDWYFW).  *****

Case 7L  Case 7S  :  1972-1973 (See this page for some pictures and commentary on the January 20, 1973 counter-inaugural march: http://www.mindyourbusiness.com/january20.htm ). *****

Case 8L  Case 8S  :   Groups for Peace and some miscellaneous I haven't determined a year for.

Case 9L  Case 9S  :  The Resistance, Anti-draft, and GI causes.

Case 10 to be added  Miscellaneous slogan pins

Case 11 (Riker):  A group of mostly variations on the 1969 Moratorium dove types, with a few other earlier dated ones and a few miscellaneous larger 3" pins.

I have a want list of pins that I am actively seeking.

I have also added a page of my McGovern button collection
